The Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal
"for remarkable service in the conservation of culture and nature in mountainous regions"
"I don't know if I particularly want to be remembered for anything. I have enjoyed great satisfaction from my climb of Everest and my trips to the poles. But there's no doubt, either, that my most worthwhile things have been the building of schools and medical clinics. That has given me more satisfaction than a footprint on a mountain."
The ninth Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal will be presented at the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara on December 11, 2017, in conjunction with the Nepal Mountaineering Association's Mountain Festival and in observance of the United Nations' Internation Mountain Day.
Nominations are now being accepted for the upcoming Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal.
